To find the best brush to easily groom your dog, you need to know that dogs have different grooming needs depending of their coat. Some have short hair, some have long hair, and some have undercoats. The different types of fur have different needs for brushing and grooming.
Done correctly, you can lower the amount your dog sheds by 85%. For instance, brushing after a bath can remove much more hair than just brushing alone.
If you’re like me, you want your pup to enjoy themselves as much as possible. With my Golden Retriever Nola, that means that she needs to be groomed often because she goes swimming nearly every day.

Bristle brushes work well and are quite versatile for grooming
Bristle brushes are what you are used to for many things such as cleaning brushes or toothbrushes. They work well for fine, short, or medium hair lengths. The brush below is a combination bristle and pin brush which will cover a wide range of dog breeds.
Pin brushes groom with some extra stiffness
I like a pin brush for my Golden Retriever so I’m also putting a pin brush here along with the combo.
Wire-Pin brushes
This type of brush is good for curly, woolly coats that will have medium to long fur. Good for small dogs and Poodles.
Slicker brushes
Made with fine wire bristles, a slicker brush is useful for removing mats and tangles.
Combs
Rubber and metal curry combs can massage your dog’s skin and they will help remove dead hair from short-haired puppers.
SheddingTools
Shedding tools can come in the form of a brush with closely-spaced, stainless steel tines that work on removing the undercoat or a shedding blade with serrated teeth. I use a Furminator to remove undercoat fur. Things have improved a bit so I’m recommending a newer model here.
