What are bully sticks you ask?
I first heard of bully sticks when I read Cesar Milan’s Book “How to Raise the Perfect Dog: Through Puppyhood and Beyond“. A very helpful training guide that really can’t be beat, especially for the cost.
Bully sticks are named due to their origin. instead of being made of raw hide, they are make of bull muscle. That means they are not hard on your dog’s digestion. They are are dog chews that are made from the pizzle or penis of the bull. Pizzles have historically been used for different purposes from walking canes to medicinal powders, and even eaten in their raw or cooked form by humans in parts of the world today, but I doubt you’re going to find many people eating bull penis’ in the US today.
You should never give your dog rawhide chews. They are not digestible and they can cause serious problems to your dog’s digestion. On top of that, the rawhide is processed with chemicals that can cause cancer when they are ingested.
I gave my dogs rawhide for years, but when I discovered the downside of these treats, I stopped giving my dogs rawhide treats altogether.
I started looking for bully sticks at our local pet shops.
At first, my wife went to our local pet store, but she couldn’t find them and came home with the twisted rawhide sticks we all know and have given our dogs for years.
Cesar said that bully sticks were better, so I was still on the hunt. I started doing some research. The more I researched it, the less I was inclined to buy rawhide treats.
I found some bully sticks locally, but the ones I found locally were mostly over priced. They wanted 6-10 bucks for 2 oz packages of bully sticks. I did find some twisted ones that weren’t too bad. Then I found the mother load. On Amazon they had a package of bully sticks that was made from premium, all-natural beef.
Unlike other bully sticks made from cheap ingredients in China, they were made from only free-range and grass-fed beef. They advertise no harmful hormones, antibiotics, preservatives, chemicals or additives. These bully sticks are a treat that’s actually good for your dog.
